• Four people victims of weekend scams

On Sunday, July 25, 2010, at least three citizens in Henry County and at least one in the City of Martinsville, were victims of a scam. The first two incidents occurred on Chatham Heights Road, one in the county and one in the city. In both of these incidents a white male and a white female approached the house and once the female suspect had the victim occupied the male subject went into the house looking for anything of value. In both of these incidents the ruse the suspects used was that they did tree work and the victim supposedly had trees on their property that had grown into the power lines and needed to be trimmed. Once the female suspect had the victim(s) outside the house supposedly looking at the trees and figuring a price, the male subject entered the home. In the first county incident a small safe, with some CD’s and other valuables, was taken from the residence, in the city incident a diamond necklace, a gold baby’s ring, and 20 gold half-dollars were taken.

The third incident occurred on Stultz Road in the county and apparently involves the same suspects but in this incident they went into the house with the victim and the female engaged the victim in conversation and the male suspect disappeared for several minutes. The victim thought he had gone outside through the back door. When the male suspect reappeared he advised the victim that she may need some roof work and then advised the female suspect that they had to go. Once they were gone the victim advised she noticed her things in the bedroom had been disturbed and she was missing a cluster diamond ring, 2 watches (unk. Brand) with diamonds on them, and some "costume jewelry".

In the fourth incident, a victim on Daniels Creek Road was approached by these suspects and again the female occupied the victim while the male went inside and went inside the house. In this incident the ruse they used was that they were looking for leaking water lines and they needed to check his property for leaks. This victim was missing credit cards in the name of "Reuben Stone".

All of the victims were apparently targeted because of their age.

The description of the suspects in all of these incidents is very similar. A white male with a scruffy beard, 40’s, approx. 5’ 9" tall and approx. 175lbs. The only clothing description is a baseball cap of unknown color.
A white female with short or pulled back hair, 30’s, approx. 5’ 6" tall, approx. 130-135 lbs.
A third subject was also seen in or at the vehicle in several of these incidents and is described as a white male child or young teenager. No further description available.

The vehicle used is described as a dark colored, newer, pickup truck, possibly blue or black. At least two of the victims saw a red tarp covering something in the bed of the truck
